The undergraduate program has four curriculum options. The Equine Science option allows students to focus on the sciences and technical skills required for a successful career in the horse industry, and by choosing appropriate elective courses will prepare students for application to Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine. The Pre-Vet/Pre-Professional option gives students a foundation in biological and physical sciences for careers in emerging areas of biotechnology while satisfying requirements for application to Auburn's College of Veterinary Medicine, other professional schools, or graduate school. The Production/Management option offers a greater breadth in animal production management and agribusiness. The Muscle Foods option prepares students for quality assurance and for research and development careers in the food industry. Students may use electives to develop expertise in fields such as such as animal breeding, nutrition, reproduction, growth, animal behavior and companion animals. Internships are encouraged for credit and conducted away from the university under outstanding mentors in various fields of endeavor. The graduate programs provide advanced education and technical training in preparation for careers in public and private sectors related to animal science and technology, food science and technology, animal biotechnology, agribusiness, and university-level research and education. Areas of specialization include animal nutrition, animal behavior, biochemistry and molecular biology, quantitative/population genetics and reproductive biology.
