The Equine Business Management degree program at Cazenovia College is designed to provide students with the combination of equine and business courses necessary to pursue careers in the field of equine business management. Course requirements include a variety of equine business courses (Business Management for Farms and Stables, Advanced Equine Business Management, etc.) and equine science-related courses (Equine Anatomy, Equine Nutrition, Equine Diseases and Injuries, etc.). Additionally the program includes many standard business courses. Students interested in the field of equine reproduction may also pursue a group of courses that will result in a Certificate in Equine Reproductive Management. The required courses are supplemented by electives, including courses in teaching methods, horse show management, equine selection and judging, equine photography, equine medical management and others that help to strengthen the students’ backgrounds in their specific interest areas related to business management. Students are required to complete a business internship during their senior year. Students take at least two semesters of equitation courses. The equitation classes in hunter seat, western, dressage, reining, and pleasure driving are hour-long classes that meet twice each week. Class size is limited to six. A variety of instructors, each with specialties in the areas mentioned, challenge the students to improve their skills.
