Ocala is home to over 600 horse farms representing a very broad and diverse equine industry. Several local farms serve as teaching laboratories and many local arms and equine businesses participate in the student’s co-operative work experience. Classroom teaching is conducted on the Ocala campus. Distance learning is not available at this time. Students seeking riding and training experience may work with the many equine professionals located in Ocala, FL.

The focus of the CFCC Equine Science program is to prepare students for a career in equine farm management, equine service or retail enterprise. Classes focus on science and business skills related to the horse industry. The program is neither a riding program nor a program to train horses. Our classes include Equine Health Care, Equine Nutrition, Equine Reproduction, Equine Anatomy and Physiology, Equine Behavior and Psychology, Equine Business Management, and Horse Computer Skills. Most faculty hold either a Ph.D. in Animal Science or a veterinary degree. We also offer several classes to enhance the student’s hands-on skills with horses in a work-study environment. Articulation agreements are in place with four-year colleges for students wishing to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Equine Studies.
