Hunter/jumper shows and combined training events

Students are given a classical education in equitation and balance seat. Some are prepared to compete in hunter/jumper shows and combined training events, others to participate in the hunt field. Beginners learn the basics of riding and caring for the horse and tack. Intermediate and advanced riders learn to execute more complicated and difficult exercises. Along with regular lessons, intermediate and advanced riders are given the opportunity to ride with well-known professionals in occasional clinics sponsored regularly throughout the year by the school. Students are encouraged to compete in horse shows and events held both on and off campus. Advanced riders are invited frequently to participate in local foxhunting meets from early fall through early spring. Foxcroft has a Riding Team and a Riding Club. The Riding Team competes in the Tri-State Equitation League, which consists of seven schools. The Eventing Team has won the Mid-Atlantic Horse Trials Interschool title several years running. The Riding Club, comprised of approximately 25-30 members, assists the riding staff in the organization of stable management lectures, clinics, and competitions, which are held on campus. The program also sponsors an annual exchange program with the Stonar School in England and a bi-annual trekking or hunting trips to Ireland.
