Class ratio:
Small classes at all levels are a hallmark of the program, with a maximum 6:1 student-instructor ratio. Working on the athletic 10 week schedule, a student may choose to ride for Physical Education credit by taking three lessons per week. At every level, lessons address stable management and horse care.
Showing:
Novice riders may participate in an invitational show series. Competitions for intermediate riders include local horse shows. GFS also hosts several hunter and equitation shows. If you are interested in competing at the national level, GFS offers an "A" rated show package that includes USEF competitions in Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida and Virginia. If combined training is your primary focus, you will have the opportunity to compete in USEA horse trials.

Whether or not you choose to compete, GFS nurtures your love of the sport and of the horse. You can ride in hunter paces, take a clinic from nationally recognized instructors and enjoy Riding Club activities. Through it all -- and above all -- you are part of a caring community that values, encourages and respects you, your fellow riders and the horses. The GFS riding program's solid foundation and flexibility based on Hunter Seat Equitation allow a student to learn and advance in a variety of disciplines: equitation, hunters and jumpers, eventing and polo. Garrison's unified curriculum provides a seamless transition from beginner to advanced levels. Eventing and "A" show riders must have their own mounts. Appropriate horses are available to lease on a limited basis. The School's teams have a long history of success, with the Equitation Team holding the 2008 IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) National Championship and the 2008 Tri-State Equitation League Championship. The Eventing Team competes in several annual events including the Mid-Atlantic Interscholastic Horse Trials and the Mid-Atlantic Interscholastic Showjumping Competition.
