School Information
Type of School:
Specialty School
Tuition Costs:
Fees vary according to the number of teaching weeks and the degree of difficulty of each certificate. Courses are government-subsidized for New Zealand citizens, but overseas students have to pay a higher fee. For example, Level 3 Stable Practice costs (NZ) $15,000 (US $12,147), Stable Practice Track Riding (NZ) $15,200 (US $12,300) and Level 4 Sporthorse $16,200 (US $13,119.).
Facilities:
Kyrewood has two all-weather outdoor arenas, a full cross-country course at two different heights, extensive dressage and show jumping facilities, over 50 school horses, stables and saddling stalls, and a horse walker. Accommodation is available on the property and at the city’s university.
Class ratio:
The courses vary in content, but are generally divided into 40 percent riding, 30 percent classroom, and 30 percent hands-on horsemastership.
Showing:
Kyrewood hosts shows, dressage tournaments, one-day events, and show jumping competitions on the property, and students are welcome to compete if they wish. They also have the opportunity to do some outside competing as well.

All certificates except Thoroughbred Breeding have a riding component. Tuition is divided between equitation, horse care, horsemastership, and life skills. Students may bring their own horse, if they wish, to enable them to further its training while they attend the course. These courses are suitable for students 18 years of age and over. This is a small school of approximately 20 students, and with the number of students kept low, yet high in ability, a high pass-rate is achieved.
