Lamar Community College offers 2 options for two-year Associate of Applied Science degrees. Both the Horse Training & Management (HTM) and the Equine Business Management (EBM) degree are designed to be hands-on programs focusing on preparing students to become successfully employed in the Equine industry using Western riding. The HTM program uses starting two-year old colts to form a base for student learning. Students start at least three colts the first year and specialize train at least one horse the second year before completing the program with a 15-week internship as supervised by a trainer of their choice. Prospective students must complete a riding interview before being accepted into the program. Interviews may be scheduled at anytime but prospective students are encouraged to attend one of four dates set in March and April. The EBM program allows students to hone their riding skills while gaining valuable business skills. Students are encouraged to bring their own horse to campus to use while completing the degree requirements. No riding interview is required, but students are encouraged to visit campus and meet the instructors.
