Moorpark College
This program is geared toward all exotic animals (not just equines). The increasing importance of zoos and wildlife education to the efforts of conservation, and the use of animals in various entertainment fields present many career options to graduates of this curriculum. The EATM program prepares the student for positions in the animal care industry that often involve working with potentially dangerous animals. The students work with a wide variety of animals at the college’s facility and at other animal facilities during their course of study. Students are required to work at America’s Teaching Zoo, located on the Moorpark College campus, many nights and weekends. This requirement is in addition to the long hours and days spent working with and caring for the animals and attending classes. The zoo currently has a miniature horse in the collection, and in the past, an Arabian horse and a zebra have also been in residence. Several camels, goats, pigs, water buffalo and other types of “hoofstock” animals such as llamas, alpacas, and deer are always included in the program.
