Teaching beginning through advanced English and Western riding with a specialty in reining, colt training, and horse science. The Equine Science option is a four-year program offered within the Department of Animal Sciences. The option emphasizes a well-rounded education in equine production, management, training, and marketing, and is unique in the Pacific Northwest. Students have opportunities for extensive hands-on practical experience in many equine career areas. An Equine Science minor also exists for students of other majors interested in pursuing equine studies. A diverse riding program with credit classes in both English and Western disciplines complements the core curriculum. Select students have the opportunity for part-time employment at the OSU Horse Center, thereby gaining valuable job-related experience while completing their degree. Internships, available at the Horse Center or through participating farms and stables, offer students the opportunity for extended on-the-job experience with university credit.
