The aim of the Equestrian Program is to provide international and New Zealand students attending St. Peter’s with the opportunity to improve their equestrian skills, further their knowledge of horsemastership, and attain unit standards, which give credit towards the National Certificates in Equine. A special International Riding Program is available for a limited number of students. This program has the major focus on equestrian studies with a core academic program. A booklet outlining this program is available upon request. St. Peter’s is one of two New Zealand schools approved to offer a Level 4 qualification, and the only school to offer a program designed specifically for international students. Equine Studies is offered as introductory modules for Y9 students and NZQA unit standards from Yr 10 onwards. This is a self-directed self-paced course of study. The total course is equivalent to approximately two years full-time correspondence study. The amount of work completed each year varies from student to student. Modules include self check questions and practical exercises designed to increase understanding. As well as giving credits towards National Certificates in Equine, unit standards may also be credited to the New Zealand National Certificate of Education (NCEA).
