Almost a quarter of the students at St. Tim’s participate in the riding program, whether they are competitive riders or riding for pleasure. Most girls ride the school horses, but some bring their own to board at the school. Several students enjoy foxhunting with the Carrollton Hounds, and many take advantage of ample opportunities in the area to compete. St. Timothy’s sponsors a horse show each fall and spring and a series of winter indoor schooling shows. We also host clinics in the fall or winter with well-known professionals including Frank Madden, Phillip Dutton, and Joe Fargis. The Varsity and Junior Varsity teams compete with other schools, and riders participate in the Maryland Interschool Horse Show and Event, as well as the Mid-Atlantic Interschool Horse Show. The Equestrian Club organizes a riding trip to Europe most summers, assists at the winter shows, and helps at the local horse rescue.
