The UNH Equine Program is proud to offer a unique and well-rounded program of study to students pursuing careers in the horse industry. The equine program’s outstanding physical facilities are complemented by a strong science-based curriculum taught by a faculty with years of experience in the equine industry. Students can gain practical hands-on experience in many areas of equine specialization. The core curriculum provides students with a solid background in business and in the biological and equine sciences.  Classes include Equine Care & Handling, Stable Management, Conformation & Lameness, Principles of Teaching, Principles of Training, Therapeutic Riding, Equine Sports Medicine, Equine Diseases, Nutrition, Genetics, Reproductive Management and Artificial Insemination, and Horse Trials Management. Riding program is a three-credit class with three hours of mounted instructions and one hour of classroom instruction per week.  Riding class size averages seven students. Classes are in balance seat, dressage, and combined training. A Horsemen’s Club, study abroad programs to Portugal and Ireland, opportunity for students to prepare for instructor certification (NARHA & ARICP) and a NARHA Premiere Accredited Therapeutic Riding Program are on site.  The UNH Equine Program also hosts two USEA/USEF-recognized Horse Trials (Beginner Novice through Preliminary) and two USDF/USEF-recognized Dressage Shows (Training Level through Grand Prix) each year and hosts many clinics and seminars throughout the year.
