Students have the opportunity to compete on the University's Intercollegiate Equestrian Team. This team competes in hunter and Western classes. As opportunities arise, students can work with a young horse during the summer months and compete in local shows.

The equine program at USU is a hands-on program allowing students to gain skills that will be important in the equine industry. Students are encouraged to be active at the Equine Educational Center where they will be exposed to many opportunities to learn more about equine management, including daily care and feeding, care of sick or lame horses, upkeep and care of facilities, breeding and foaling, along with involvement in public relations through clinics throughout the state. Students can also compete on the Intercollegiate Equestrian Team in either hunt seat or Western or both. The 2006-07 team had the top-placing Western team for the region and for zone's which includes the western states.
